Sciana: The Health Leaders Network exists today because of the contributions made by three major European foundations.

The Health Foundation (UK), the Careum Stiftung (Switzerland), and the Robert Bosch Stiftung (Germany) have come together to fund and launch a network addressing the present and future challenges in health and health care.

Each foundation is working in collaboration with Salzburg Global Seminar, which will manage and deliver the program. Salzburg Global Seminar is an international non-profit organisation with a mission to challenge present and future leaders to solve issues of global concern. Its vision is to shape a better world by forging breakthrough collaborations to bridge divides. The foundations will cover the costs for all meetings for members, including reasonable travel.

The Health Foundation, an independent charity, is committed to bringing about better health and health care for people in the UK. The Careum Stiftung, established in 1882 as a hospital and training institute for nurses, views itself as an organisation promoting dialogue between different stakeholders in health care. The Robert Bosch Stiftung, meanwhile, is one of the major German foundations associated with a private company.

The Network will operate as a pilot for five cohorts, with refinements taking place throughout its duration. An evaluation after cohort one will inform the next phase. Members are expected to help shape the program and build the network for the future.

Each cohort will have 18 members. The Health Foundation will recruit and support six members working in the UK; Careum Stiftung will support six members in Switzerland; Robert Bosch Stiftung will support six members primarily residing in Germany. Salzburg Global will be responsible for co-ordinating the activities of the network.

Schloss Leopoldskron, in Salzburg, will host each cohort for four long weekend gatherings over a two-year period. The Network and associated activities will receive continued support, including a dedicated online platform to utilise. International experts will lead Salzburg Global workshops, and members will showcase and develop policy proposals, innovations and game-changing projects.

During the two-year period, members will be expected to collaborate with one another on joint policy proposals, service delivery information, publications and self-determined projects. There will be bursaries for site visits, and every member will devise and undertake at least one visit as an individual or collaborating in a team.
