Members to convene at Salzburg Global for inaugural Sciana gathering

First of four meetings to take place at Schloss Leopoldskron to review global trends and challenges

Final preparations are being made as a selection of the world's most entrepreneurial and strategic thinkers look set to meet in Salzburg this week for the first meeting of Sciana: The Health Leaders Network.

Sciana is a network supported by The Health Foundation (UK), Careum Stiftung (Switzerland), and Robert Bosch Stiftung (Germany). Each foundation is working in collaboration with Salzburg Global Seminar.

Network members, who will meet at Schloss Leopoldskron between April 26 and April 29, will discuss a broad range of topics related to health care.

The network includes outstanding leaders from across Europe who share a deep commitment to quality, sustainability, universal coverage, and patient and community-centered care, nationally and internationally.

Their vision and collaboration, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development goals, is critically needed to respond to common issues, such as financial strains, demographic change, chronic diseases, and migration.

Members will be given the space to take inspiration and learning from across the globe, as well as space to share their insights. They will work together to tackle some of the common challenges we are facing across Europe.

During this week’s program, network members will ask themselves what the key issues affecting health and health care will be in the coming decades. They will review the development of different health systems across the planet and how the construction of health alliances can help tackle challenges.

Network members will take part in plenary discussions, listen to case studies, and present their work to others in the group. This work will lead to network members coming up with project ideas, which will be presented toward the end of the program. On the final day, network members will review the next steps moving forward.

International experts will lead the workshops, and members will showcase and develop policy proposals. Members are expected to meet one another to work on agreed projects in between these formal gatherings. The network comprises up to 18 members in each cohort - around six from each country, selected by each foundation.

Members are expected to play a full and active part in collaborating with colleagues from across the three countries, and further afield.

Health policymakers, practitioners, academics, journalists, elected officials and public sector leaders are due to attend this week’s event. It will be the first of four four-day gatherings in Salzburg over a two-year period. Salzburg Global is responsible for the program delivery and will support members throughout their time on the program via a dedicated online platform.
